March Is Women in Rotary Month

Celebrating Leadership, Service, and Impact

Each March, Rotary clubs around the world recognize Women in Rotary Month — a time to celebrate the leadership, service, and lasting contributions of women throughout the Rotary movement.

Since women were first admitted to Rotary in 1989, their impact has transformed clubs, strengthened communities, and advanced global initiatives. Today, women serve at every level of the organization — as club presidents, district governors, trustees, and President of Rotary International.

Leadership at the Highest Level

In 2022–23, Jennifer E. Jones became the first woman to serve as President of Rotary International. Her leadership marked a defining moment in Rotary’s history and reinforced a powerful message: service leadership knows no gender.

Across districts and clubs worldwide, women are:

  • Serving as club presidents and district governors

  • Leading major foundation and fundraising efforts

  • Managing global grant initiatives

  • Spearheading membership growth and modernization

  • Driving strategic communications and digital engagement

Their leadership has helped Rotary evolve — becoming more inclusive, dynamic, and responsive to community needs.

Strengthening Clubs and Communities

Women in Rotary bring diverse professional expertise, collaborative leadership styles, and innovative thinking. Their participation:

  • Expands club demographics and community reach

  • Enhances mentorship opportunities

  • Encourages intergenerational engagement

  • Builds stronger connections with families and community organizations

As Rotary continues to focus on attracting younger members and broadening its appeal, the leadership and visibility of women are central to that effort.

Looking Forward

Women in Rotary Month is not only a celebration — it is a call to action.

  • Invite women leaders in your community to attend a meeting.

  • Highlight women-led service projects on social media.

  • Share stories of impact within your club.

  • Encourage mentorship and leadership development.

Rotary thrives when it reflects the communities it serves. By continuing to elevate and empower women leaders, we strengthen our ability to live out Rotary’s enduring ideal: Service Above Self

Join the Celebration

Throughout March, let us recognize and thank the women who lead, serve, and inspire within Rotary. Their contributions have shaped the past, define the present, and will guide Rotary into the future.

Together, we build stronger clubs.
